The June 24th YTG Covid19 update included the following;
Beginning July 1, the Whitehorse Farmers Market can welcome non-food vendors (such as artisans and soap and flower sellers). Information booths will continue to be excluded. In addition, market organizers have been advised they now have the ability to offer seating and an outdoor dining experience to the public as long as physical distancing is maintained. Buskers are also allowed to return to the market beginning July 1.

We will be at Shipyards Park on May 28th with all kinds of wonderful Yukon-produced food! There will be some changes to what you usually see on a Thursday market as we run as an outdoor grocery store shopping experience. See the poster to the left.
We are happy to announce we can operate our market this summer.
This is a food-only market while COVID-19 restrictions are in place. Farm produce, baked and prepared goods, meals-to-go. An online market, to compliment the physical market, will allow customers to purchase and pay for their shopping from participating vendors prior to pick up at Shipyards Park. Purchases can be made at the market as well. The online market will also allow customers to connect with our non-food vendors who at this time will not represented at the physical market.

The first market is Thursday May 28th.
Currently the Yukon is under a state of emergency, enacted March 27th. The Direction and Guidelines for the Delivery of Critical, Essential and Other Services lists markets as an essential service under delivery of food section.
Many other jurisdictions have also deemed farmer’s markets essential services (links 1,2). This is not business as usual for markets as only food can be offered for sale and social interaction must be limited to maintain physical distancing.
The Fireweed Community Market Society has proposed to our public health authority, an operation of a food-only market based on what we have researched in other areas of the country (link 3).
We would like to operate a food-only market at Shipyards park on Thursdays. It would be a multi-vendor, multi-stand market but also combine the ability for customers to pre-select and pre-purchase products on-line before the market opens (reducing the amount of time customers are in the market).
In a normal year, our outdoor market runs 18 times each Thursday from the middle of May to the beginning of September. No decisions have been made yet on a starting date as we wait to hear from public health on how best to proceed.

Be carried away by the wonderful aromas, delicious fresh foods, and unique artisans from our approximately 40 weekly vendors. Grab a picnic dinner and get that special gift. Enjoy local live music and other amusements from buskers. Dive into our art and agricultural workshops and demonstrations. What a great way to spend part of your Thursdays!
